Restoration by the Lord

March 20, 2016 Speaker: Fred Greco Series: Zechariah

Topic: AM Service Passage: Zechariah 10:1–5

There is something inside us that knows we need help. We are not in complete control of our circumstances. We are not able to have everything in life that we think we need. We know we fall short, and so we seek out help, but often our search is so self-centered that we do not give proper consideration to whom or what we are pledging our allegiance. There is so much in the world today that demands our attention and our loyalty, that if we are not careful, we will be enslaving ourselves to a harsh taskmaster rather than obtaining the help we need. This is especially the case with respect to our relationship with the Lord. Too often we try and substitute other idols for the true and living God, simply because we believe that they will make us happier or bring us more things. The truth is that only the Lord God can deliver on His promises, only the Lord can protect His people, only the Lord cares. All other idols are false because they are not real, not alive. When we seek purpose and blessing, we must seek it in the Lord. The prophet Zechariah points us to “Restoration by the Lord” (Zechariah 10:1-5).

I. Begins with Prayer
A. Knowing Our Needs
B. Trusting the Lord to Meet Our Needs

II. Continues with Rejecting Idols
A. Rejecting Our Own Manipulations
B. Rejecting False Comfort

III. Is Completed by Resting in Christ
A. Christ Alone is Able
B. Christ is the True Shepherd

Questions for consideration: (1) What in your life right now do you feel unable to deal with? What is stopping you from turning it over to the Lord? (2) Is there an area of your life you have been ignoring because you compare yourself with others around you? Why is that so dangerous? (3) What does resting in Christ require you to give up? How has Christ shown Himself true in your life?
